Interested operators can now obtain a RFP information packet
Are you or someone you know interested in operating a revolutionary food distribution enterprise in Kane County?
The Food Hub Project Team has just released an Operator Request for Proposals, seeking a qualified operator to manage and/or own a future food hub enterprise. Business analysis conducted through Kane County's Food Hub Feasibility Study determined that market conditions are extremely favorable for a food enterprise that aggregates regionally grown products for sale to wholesale and institutional buyers. Such an entity is anticipated to create new opportunities for Kane County and area farmers to sell their products, and be a source of fresh, healthy foods for communities that might not have easy access to fresh produce.
If selected to work with the Food Hub Project Team, the chosen operator will receive exclusive resources and technical assistance at no cost including:
- Technical assistance from the Food Hub Project Consultant, New Venture Advisors, to develop a customized and comprehensive business plan.
- All research, data and comprehensive analysis compiled through the Food Hub Feasibility Study - including a detailed financial model.
- Full list of producers, buyers and other potential partners, their level of interest and commitment expectations, and more...

5th Annual Fox River Summit
Summit to explore watershed management issues on March 10
The 5th annual Fox River Summit, a collaboration between the Fox River Ecosystem Partnership in Illinois and the Southeast Fox River Partnership in Wisconsin, with financial support from the Southeastern Wisconsin Fox River Commission, will take place March 10 at Veterans Terrace at Echo Park in the City of Burlington, Wisconsin. This event, called the "Fox River Summit - Celebrating Success and Addressing Challenges" will examine watershed management issues in both the Wisconsin and Illinois portions of the river basin. "A key goal will be continuing a dialogue between stakeholders in Wisconsin and Illinois on many shared topics including recreation, economics, sustainable flows, flooding, fishery, water quality and pollutant loadings," said Dr. Tom Slawski, President of the Southeast Fox River Partnership and conference planning team chair.
This summit is an opportunity to collaborate and reaffirm commitments identified in the " Declaration of Partnership" on March 22, 2013 ( http://www.foxriversummit.org/). The Summit helps advance integrated approaches to managing resources to meet human needs and maintain aquatic ecosystem integrity for present and future generations within the Fox River Basin and beyond. Green Town returns to the Fox Valley in downtown Aurora
The Fox Valley Sustainability Network, formed by GreenTown co-founders a5 Inc and Seven Generations Ahead, will be hosting the third GreenTown event in the City of Aurora at Two Brothers Roundhouse on Thursday, April 27, 2017. At the last GreenTown Aurora event in 2015, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner urged participants to work together to ensure the further development of healthy, sustainable communities in the Fox Valley region. This year's event will feature a mayors breakfast, a keynote address and breakout sessions for the Fox Valley Sustainability Network's seven topic areas listed below.

- Green infrastructure
- Transportation
- Water
- Waste
The Fox Valley Sustainability Network brings together the public and private sectors from around the Fox Valley to cut across boundaries and create healthy sustainable communities-and a vibrant Fox Valley. By marrying a strong communications effort with a series of action-oriented events, the Fox Valley Sustainability Network will provide opportunities to learn together, collaborate on sustainability planning and implementation, seek funding and report progress.

Metropolitan Planning Council 10-point action agenda to preserve and enhance the region's water supply
The Metropolitan Planning Council continues to raise awareness on the challenges facing the region's water supply and map steps to strengthen the system through its 10-point action agenda. The MPC publication addresses the challenges our region faces in stark terms, raising three critical questions on our water system: "Do we have enough? Is it clean? Will the system endure? The answer to all three questions will be a stark "no" if we do not take coordinated action."
The system of infrastructure, institutions and regulations that bring water from the lake, rivers and underground aquifers to our taps is complicated and fragmented. Consumers are buffered from these complexities, and therefore are disconnected from understanding why we need to invest in this critical service that enables us to drink, bathe and indeed survive.
The MPC report addresses area-specific challenges in communities throughout northeastern Illinois, in addition to those prevalent across the region's entire system. The report webpage also includes an interactive map of communities across the region and their respective source(s) of water.

Waubonsee Community College to host screening of Hometown Habitat with a director Q & A session
The Fox River Ecosystem Partnership, The Conservation Foundation, Kane County Division of Environmental & Water Resources, Fox Valley Sustainability Network, and several other partners and sponsors will host a showing of the film Hometown Habitat. This event will be extra special because the film director, Catherine Zimmerman will be present for a Q&A after the screening!
FILM DESCRIPTION: Hometown Habitat features renowned entomologist Dr. Douglas Tallamy, whose research, books and lectures on the use of non-native plants in landscaping, sound the alarm about habitat and species loss. Tallamy provides the narrative thread that challenges the notion that humans are here and nature is someplace else. "It doesn't have to, and shouldn't be that way." Inspiring stories of community commitment to conservation landscaping illustrate Tallamy's vision by showing how humans and nature can co-exist with mutual benefits.
